You are in the shower and that solution to the problem that you have been pondering for weeks finally hits you! But, in the moment, you think that you’ll write it down later or somehow remember it later and that’s how the story ends, right? Nope, you end up forgetting that brilliant idea of yours.
A few weeks later, you discover that someone else has launched the very same solution to the problem you have been racking your brain about- the exact same thing that had been bothering you for weeks!
Now, this is why these are the three things you MUST protect from idea thieves: (1) your money; (2) your trust; and (3) your energy. How, do you ask, protect these?
We all know to protect our money Nequosha, why are you wasting my time listing this? Great question! Did you know the average litigation proceedings can cost upwards of $50,000+ and up? Now, I do not know about you, but I am not working all of these long hours and nights to just give it away to defend against what I know to be rightfully mine – ALREADY! This is what I mean when I say you must protect ya money because the average online business owner does not (and due to no fault of their own) have money or business insurance to assist in times of needing to defend against an online intruder in their business. And note — some intruders can come from within (e.g., employees or independent contractors).
Okay! This is the one that I see and hear so many times! Whether if it’s in consultations or people hitting me up in the DMs because they are upset they trusted someone who they knew in their gut they shouldn’t have. Friend, listen up and please remember this — entering into business with people is like entering into a marriage. You and I both know that marriage is for a lifetime (*fingers crossed*) and the same is true for your business and your intellectual property business assets. Protect everything you own from the start and you don’t have to worry about (well at least have the tools to defend) in the event someone does indeed break your trust.
Did you know it takes a lot of energy to go tussle with people? This includes those keyboard thugs who come along to monitor exactly what you’re doing, what you’re saying, and the next marketing move you make on Al Gore’s Internets. Friend, it is so important that you protect your energy at all costs. Now, I’m not telling you not to fire back one of the best one snippiest one-liners your keyboard can handle — but I am telling you must lay the proper foundation from the very start as this will ensure you are indeed protecting your energy from idea thieves.
First, you must secure your ideas from others by utilizing tools available to you from the United States Government. This includes trademarking, copyrighting, and contracts. These tools are available to YOU and you can easily utilize them by contacting a business attorney such as myself to help guide you through the process.
Make this commitment now, and early on, so that you will not regret this later!
Now if you want to hop in my email and share about how someone has violated your money, trust or energy I’m all ears – just email me here at info@andersonlawfl.com or you can sign up for my emails and gain some more insight on how to navigate this crazy online business space.
